In honor of its 10th Anniversary Celebration, AITC is holding its first-ever contest.

 

2009 BEST INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL HEALTH STORY CONTEST

 

FIRST PRIZE:   $500 credit toward any AITC service

 

 

Submit a true story about a health or illness experience you had while traveling outside the USA.   We're particularly interested in stories describing:  a) illness that you were fortunate to avoid by means of preventive care (vaccinations, preventive medicines, healthy behaviors, or other preventive health actions); or b) illness that you were unfortunate enough to contract that could likely have been preventable.  Feel free to enhance your story by submitting 1 or 2 related photographs from the trip (optional). 

 

CONTEST INSTRUCTIONS & RULES:

  • Contestants need not be AITC clients, though of course AITC clients are welcome to submit their stories.
  • Stories must be under 600 words, in English, original, and must not have been published in the past.
  • The deadline for submission is November 30, 2009.
  • Stories and any photos should be submitted to travelshots.dph@sfdph.org with the words "TRAVEL HEALTH STORY" in the subject line.  Stories should be sent either in the body of the email or as a .doc attachment.  Photos should be sent as attachments to the same email, in a standard digital photo format (.jpeg or .gif).  Submissions should contain the name, email address, physical address, and telephone contact number(s) of the author.

 

  • 1st Prize = $500 credit toward any AITC service(s) during 2010.  (One 1st prize to be awarded)
  • 2nd Prize = $100 credit toward any AITC service(s) during 2010.  (Two 2nd prizes to be awarded)
  • 3rd Prize = one Travel Health Visit Fee waiver during 2010 ($39 value).  (Eight 3rd prizes to be awarded)

 

  • Prizes may be used personally by the winner or shared with a designated family member or friend.   Otherwise, prizes are not transferable and have no cash value.
  • Stories (with photos, if applicable) by the prize winners will be published on our website, and in a book to be made available in our clinic.  Submissions not published will receive Honorable Mention. 
  • Winners shall be determined by judges composed of AITC staff.  Judges will be “blinded” as to the identity of the authors.  All decisions by the judges will be final.
  • Contest participants, by submitting a story and/or photograph, agree that the submission becomes property of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH), and may be published in print or electronic format by SFDPH along with their first name, last name, and city/town of residence.
